Dr. Philippe Saas Professor University of Franche-Comté France
Dr. Philippe Saas is Professor of Immunology and Cell Therapy at the University of Franche-Comté, Besançon, France. During his post-doc fellowship at the University of Geneva (1995-1998, Switzerland), he studied immune responses against tumors of the central nervous system (glioblastoma). He obtained his PhD at Metz University (France) in 1997 where he studied the interactions of xenobiotics with the immune system, notably T cells. His research interests include i) the evaluation of donor-recipient interactions in the setting of kidney or hematopoietic cell (HC) transplantation, and ii) the development of cell-based and ex vivo gene therapy approaches to modulate donor-recipient interactions and thus increase overall transplantation efficacy. He studies the interactions between the immune system and apoptotic cells in order to propose apoptotic cell infusion as an alternative cell-based therapy approach.
