Michael Bauer is a Founding member of the Metalab – one of Viennas Hackerspaces. 2003-Founding member of FunkFeuer Wien a community based WiFi network in Vienna, since then served four years on the board. 2001-2006Founding member of computerclub Chaosnahe Gruppe Wien (The Viennese Chapter of the Chaos-Computer Club in Germany) - three years on the board.Member of the Austrian Working Group on Data Retention (AKVorrat.at) responsible for two campaigns (Citizens Initiative against Data Retention – signed by 106.067 people and a consitutional complaint against the Austrian implementation of the Data Retention Directive (11.139 supporters)- 2011-2012.
