Biography
Keith M. Meek joined the School in January 1999 from the Open University, where he was Senior Lecturer in Physics and Co-Director of the Oxford Research Unit.He is currently School Research Mentor and Head of the Structural Biophysics Group within the School. His initial research was on the molecular structure of collagen and the processes of collagen preparation for electron microscopy.In 1979 he started work on corneal structure and transparency at the Open University Oxford Research Unit, of which he was Co-Director, and in 1999 moved his research group to Cardiff, where he have had over £6 million in external awards including three consecutive 5-year MRC (Medical Research Council) programme grants. His international experience includes various programs, contributions and participation in different countries for diverse fields of study. His research interests reflect in his wide range of publications in various national and international journals.
Research Interest
Keith M. Meek research expertsie areas are Ophthalmic injury, Chronic wound healing or care, artificial corneas. Research Expertise relevant to tissue engineering & repair in Ultrastructure of connective tissues; the basis of transparency of the cornea; basis of light scattering in diseases of the cornea and lens; ultrastructure of the cornea and sclera and its relationship to shape, biomechanical properties and eye function; use of stem cells in corneal tissue engineering; ultrastructural consequences of stretching leather; protein glycation - ultrastructural effects and inhibition.
