Biography
Dr. Kiewiet studied medicine at the University of Amsterdam. He did his PhD research under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Boermeester at the surgery department at the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam. The study was aimed at improving the diagnosis of patients presenting with acute abdominal pain and early recognition of persistent severe peritonitis. After his doctorate, he started training as a surgeon at the Academic Medical Center and the Onze Lieve Vrouwe Gasthuis in Amsterdam. During his training he specialized in gastro-intestinal surgery, abdominal wall surgery and proctology.
