He holds a masters (1987) and a doctorate (1990) in Biophysics - Université Paris VI (Pierre et Marie Curie), France. Postdoctoral internships at the University of Florida, USA (1990-91), at the Université de Nice, France (1991-93), at the Ezequiel Dias Foundation, Brazil (1994-1997) and at Virginia Commonwealth University, USA (2007) . He is currently a full professor at the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at the Institute of Biological Sciences at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG). He was coordinator of the Postgraduate Program in Biological Sciences
