Biography
Frances Wilby MSW have worked as a clinician with older adults for over 20 years in nursing homes, assisted living centers, and adult day service centers.  She has obtained her PhD in 2008. My dissertation, "Coping and Depression Among Community-Dwelling Seniors" examined the rates of depression in adults 65 and older in Salt Lake County.  She also examined how they coped with their symptoms. She is currently the Executive Director of the W.D. Goodwill Initiatives on Aging at the College of Social Work.  The Initiatives' mission encompasses service, research, education and community collaboration.  The NHN program is a service arm providing services to low-income older adults to allow them to remain independent in their homes and communities.  MSW practicum students serve as care managers to older adults in the community to help us meet these needs.  She is currently collaborating on 4 research projects having to do with issues related to aging (please see research section for details).  Lastly, the W.D. Goodwill Initiatives on Aging Coalition is formed of approximately 50 agencies serving older adults in Utah;  private, non-profit, and governmental agencies.  The coalition works together, in a variety of capacities,  to help fill gaps in services to older adults.
