Professor Chandana Haldar, recipient of BHU Gold medal in postgraduate study, INSA-young Scientist award (1983; Gazetted Award), UGC-Career Award (1990), Vigyan Ratna (2006; Gazetted Award) is engaged in research area with neuroendocrine pineal gland and melatonin physiology in relation with reproduction and immunity of Indian tropical birds and mammals. She had sequenced melatonin receptor-subtype (MT1R) for Indian palm squirrel (NCBI acc. No.FJ263047). Her work has been recognised by IBRO-UNESCO, Alexander von Humboldt-Germany and JSPS – Japan visiting fellowship/Professorship and is supported with 196 publications, 4 books edited and 26 Ph.Ds. Being member of several National (10) and International (6) Society, she had collaborated with scientist from Poland, Germany, Japan and Italy.
