 Professor of Gerontology University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand

Biography

 A native of California, Amanda Barusch completed a BA at Reed College, and MSW and PhD degrees in Social Welfare at the University of California, Berkeley. She has published articles in leading social work and gerontology journals, and authored seven books. Her recent titles include: Love Stories of Later Life: A narrative approach to understanding romance, published by Oxford University Press and Foundations of Social Policy: Social justice in human perspective, with Wadsworth Press.

 
Dr. Barusch joined the faculty at the University of Utah College of Social Work in 1985. She has served as Associate Dean for Research and Doctoral Studies (2003-2007) and Director of the Social Research Institute (1995-1998; and is now Associate Dean for Research.
 
Dr Barusch serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Gerontological Social Work and is on the editorial board of the Journal of Poverty. She is a fellow in the Gerontological Society of America.
 
Since June of 2007 she has held appointment as Professor of Gerontology at the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand, where she continues to serve on a part-time basis. Her personal blog and website are located at www.amandabarusch.com.
Research Interest

 Professor Barusch is interested in hearing from post-graduate candidates who are planning to do research related to gerontology, specifically: policies and practice related to older adults, and individual development and relationships in later life.
