Alexander M. Gorlov, PhD, PE is a Professor Emeritus & Director of Hydro-Pneumatic Power Laboratory at Northeastern University in Boston. He has been teaching and researching at Northeastern University from 1976.He was awarded PhD in engineering. He has extended his valuable service as Professor in Energy Engineering and has been a recipient of many award and grants. Currently, he is Professor Emeritus in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at Northeastern University. His international experience includes various programs, contributions and participation in different countries for diverse fields of study. His research interests includes development of mechanical systems for harnessing renewable energy from water flows and wind. The Ocean Renewable Power Company is using the designs for the Helical Turbine invented by Gorlov to create a giant tidal powered turbine generator in Maine. Gorlov was nominated for the 2011 European Inventor Award for his invention of the helical turbine for power and propulsion systems. This is Europe's highest distinction for inventors worldwide. His invention also won the 2001 ASME Thomas A. Edison Patent Award and was named one of Popular Science's top 100 innovations of 2001. Also, he was nominated for the 2001 LEMELSON-MIT PRIZE For INVENTION & INNOVATION. As a Professor and researcher, his interests reflect in his wide range of publications in various national and international journals. Gorlov has over 100 technical publications, including books, and 25 US and International patents. In 2001 he received the THOMAS A. EDISON AWARD by ASME for Invention of the Helical Turbine.
