Thermal pollution is the degradation of water quality by any process that changes ambient water temperature. Cause of thermal pollution is the use of water as a coolant by power plants and industrial manufacturers.When water is used as a coolant is returned to the natural environment at a higher temperature, the change in temperature decreases oxygen supply and affects ecosystem composition.
Thermal pollution is the act of altering the temperature of a natural water body, which may be a river, lake or ocean environment. This condition chiefly arises from the waste heat generated by an industrial process such as certain power generation plants. Thermal pollution is one parameter of the broader subject of water pollution.
