Abstract :

Damage to the climate is real and happening now. With increasing greenhouse gases (like CO2) into the atmosphere, gases trap heat and alter the Earth??s climate. The age of global warming will foster the spread of infectious diseases. Therefore, it is imperative to understand the factors that contribute to the development of infectious diseases. In this presentation, participants will learn about the significance of climate change as the major factor for the emergence of infectious diseases. Other teaching subjects will include but not be limited to the lack of quarantine, improper hygiene, anti-vaccination movement and unrestricted antimicrobial use. From the host perspective, factors such as environmental/occupational exposure, immunosuppression (via drug or disease), history of surgery/trauma, intravenous drug abuse, bestiality and prior infection or use of antimicrobials. The presentation will be suitable for students, trainees, clinicians and researchers of all backgrounds. The purpose will be to stimulate the awareness and understanding of emerging infectious diseases.
