Abstract :

Monitoring cloud operation is vital for system managers. The accessibility of this information is equally important. An APP,
in contrast to conventional E-mail alerts, can provide instant information about the status of cloud host services. This
project cooperates with InWin Development Inc. to establish a monitoring system of cloud services. The company provides
public, private, and hybrid cloud computing services. In order to alleviate the current limitations of on-line operations, we
have developed a smartphone APP. Through the use of OpenStack APIs, the developed APP not only displays the latest status
of OpenStack shared services, but also opens PUSH notifications to alert managers in the case of emergencies. This APP
features open source software, low cost development and usage, ease of use, an enriched GUI, and cross-platforms operation.
The framework consists of a server and clients. A proxy server accesses the information by means of the cURL and OpenStack
APIs. If problems are detected, it sends warning messages through Google cloud messaging (GCM). With respect to the client
side (cloud tenants), the layout of this APP is based on HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and jQuery mobile. This allows for useful,
cross-platform interfaces. In addition, it can fetch the status of cloud servers via communication with proxy server’s AJAX
implementation.
