Abstract :

This study examined the moderating role of coping strategies in the relationship between household chaos and social adap tive functioning among adolescents. Using a cross-sectional design, data were collected from 400 adolescents aged 10â??19 years across several cities in Pakistan. Standardized measures assessed household chaos, social adaptive functioning, and coping strategies. Results showed a significant negative association between household chaos and social adaptive function ing. Moderation analyses indicated that problem-focused coping buffered the negative effects of household chaos on school performance and home duties, while emotion-focused coping mitigated its impact on peer and family relationships. The findings suggest that adaptive coping strategies can reduce the adverse effects of chaotic home environments, highlighting the importance of coping-skills-based interventions to support adolescentsâ?? social development.
