Abstract :

Plastic packaging represents a large and constantly growing part in the conservation and protection of the quality of product. Polyethylene vinyl acetate is a packaging material, then when the plastic is brought into contact with food several interactions occur, that can give cause change in the properties of the packed product and thermo-mechanical properties of packaging. The objective of this study is to develop a new method to understand these interactions by coupling the modeling with experimental approach. The transfer of ethanol in the polyethylene vinyl acetate is governed by the phenomenon of diffusion. The numerical model based on numerical finite difference method takes into account the result obtained in an experimental study. The kinetics of diffusion transfer and diffusivity of ethanol (the simulator alcohols) in our model was determined. The analytical and numerical model has been developed and validated in order to give better information on the concentration of ethanol inside the package (PEVA) and simulate in a few hours the transfer that occurs several months.
