Abstract :

Can trust play a role in NPIs effectiveness? This study aims to better understand the role of different measures of trust in the effectiveness of NPIs. Cross-country heterogeneity of NPIs effectiveness may be explained by differences in trust Cross-country heterogeneity of NPIs effectiveness may be explained by differences in trust (both interpersonal and toward institutions) among countries. NPIs are peculiar if compared to other policies. Trust is a broad concept. We are going to focus on three declinations of the concept: interpersonal trust, trust in political institutions, and trust in non-political institutions. These three characteristics have a deep impact on: 1. The way member of the communities have access to, and interact in their respective networks; 2. The way people look at other members of their community; 3. The way people perceive policies enforced by the public authorities By shaping the way people look at these impositions, and by leveraging on the personal attitude that each citizen has toward the authorities and toward the rest of the society, each of this characteristics may play an important role in the respect of such restrictions, and consequently on their effectiveness.

Biography :

Vincenzo Alfano holds currently the position of Assistant Professor in Public Economics at University of Messina. He is also associate to Institute for the Mediterranean of the Italian National Research Council, to the Center for Economic Studies – CESifo, and is research fellow for Global Labor Organization – GLO. Moreover, he serves as a board member of several scientific journals, and is the Managing Editor of Evaluation and Program Planning. Before being appointed to this position, worked as Senior Lecturer in Economics at Westminster International University in ashkent, and was the Economic Adviser for the Italian Minister of University and Research. Also, he had several Adjunct positions and Post-Doc Fellowship from Federico II University and University of Basilicata to teach and research in different spheres. has broad research interests, going from health economics and public health to the economic impact of religion. He has published in several top scientific journals, including the Journal of Policy Modeling; the Journal of Sports Economics; The B.E. Journal of Economic Analysis and Policy; and Political Studies Review
