Globally we are seeing an increase in the number of preterm births and the survival rates of these babies have exponentially increased. The one thing that adds to the life saving and sustaining part of the journey of these tiny fragile infants is the access to Mother's Own Milk (MOM) as early as possible after birth, continuing throughout the length of the hospital stay as well as till the point that breastfeeding is completely established. However, this is no mean feat. Helping mothers of preterm babies battle through the physical and mental stresses of not having the baby close to them and not being able to hold the baby or breastfeed and navigating through the strenuous mazes of expressing milk frequently, building a milk supply and maintaining it is a science that needs to be publicized widely so that all these preemies not only have a chance at lift but also have a chance with a great quality of life.
