Background & Objectives: The placement of implants immediately after extraction seems to offer several advantages. Similarly being edentulous puts the patient under psychological trauma of being without teeth. To overcome this, a study was designed to clinically & radiographically evaluate osseointegration in case of immediate & delayed implantation. Material & Methods: The study comprised of 10 patients, 5 in each group. 57 implants were placed in patient aged 17??65 yr. A preoperative assessment was done on the following parameters: a) Gingiva ?? Color, contour, texture, bleeding on probing, pocket & width b) Relation of edentulous space wi+th adjacent & opposite teeth ? Mesiodistal width >6 mm. ? Interocclusal width >5 mm ? Smile line evaluation ? Radiographic assessment for quantity & quality of bone ? Evaluation of vertical bone height ? Evaluation of horizontal bone space ? Study model & surgical guide preparation ? Selection of implant diameter & length Results: More pain, gingival inflammation & marginal bone loss was experienced in immediate implant patients than delayed implant patients at 12 week. Conclusion: On comparison of both the groups, we found delayed implantation to be slightly better than immediate implantation.
