Developing the midwifes role in public health for cancer control: Prevention and early detection of female cancers, breast and cervix

Abstract :

There were 14.1 million new cancer cases (52.7% male; 47.3% female) from which 8.2 million were death cases. Most of new cases (approximately 70%) were from developing countries. In females, breast, cervix, uterus corpus were placed among first 10. In 2012, 25% of new cases were of breast cancer, 14% of deaths were from breast cancer, and also survival rate was 80% in developed countries and 50-60% in developing countries. Same statistical results obtained belonging to the cervix. Most of women could not reach and/or use early detection, diagnosis and treatment services in developing countries. WHO��?s discription for midwifery is as increasing women��?s access to quality midwifery has become a focus of global efforts to realize the right of every woman to the best possible health care during pregnancy and childbirth. It is also at the heart of three health-related Millenium Development Goalsreduce child death, improve maternal health and fight AIDS, malaria and other diseases (MDG6). ICM��?s mission focuses on ensuring that all women, irrespective of their economic status, have access to midwifery care. Women who were health conscious were more likely to have used the screening service and performed self examination and visual inspection methods. Health education is the primary and dominant strategy in health promotion (health education; health screening; disease prevention). Health education occurs through midwives in community setting where women prefer them as the first point of contact. Midwives are informed women who knows how to avoid hazardous factors and how to perform early detection methods continuously. So, midwives has important roles to fight cancer.
