Abstract :

Spain has an enormous potential of biomass resources from sources forest and agricultural. Forest is being grown very quickly since last 20??30 years because of the movement of population to the cities causing the less local use of firewood in a traditional way and also local wood industries are decreasing so the result is that less and less wood is being used. The available quantity has been estimated of 4.772.650 DryTon/y of forest products. Regarding field agricultural biomass, there is in Spain a total available quantity remains in 12.841.774 DryTon/y. And 4.202.899 DryTon/y is the agro-industry biomass resources. Since 2008 to now, we have been collecting a sample of more than 50,000 references and 4,000MW of installed capacity in Spain. Thanks to these references, we are able to estimate that the number of appliances installed in Spain in total is almost 240,000 until the end of 2017 which corresponds to an installed capacity of 9,500MW. And it possible to show where are installed: residential uses, hotel, school, district heatings. This information allows us to to make trends about the biomass evolution in Spain and the south of Europe.
