Abstract :

Statement of the Problem: Millions of patients worldwide are seeking treatment for hyperpigmentation. Many of these patients, however are not satisfied with the degree of improvement from the treatment they received. Hyperpigmentaion may result from various underlying causes which can include acne, inflammation,underlying medical conditions amongst others. One of the most common forms of hyprpigmentation encountered by the practicing Dermatologist is Melasma. In order to treat any clinical disorder of hyperpigmentation succesfully, One must understand Melanogenesis or the process of melanin synthesis. By understanding the melanogenesis pathway the clinician will be better equipped to provide optimum therapeutic options to enhance clinical results. Skin whitening may be much better achieved with greater success by comprehending the melanogenesis pathway and therapeutic interventions done at various points in this very complex pathway. The use of the most commonly utilized ingredients in skin whitening will be discussed such as Glutathione, Vitamin C, retinoids, hydoquinone and others.

Biography :

Dr. Ayyaz M Shah is a Dermatologist and Cosmetic Laser Surgeon practicing in Orlando, Florida. He graduated medical school from New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine and is Board certified in Dermatology, Family Medicine and Laser Surgery. Dr. Ayyaz has been been in clinical practice for almost 20 years and has been a recipient of many awards such as Top Doctor and National winner Dermatology by Doctors Choice awards amongst others. He currently serves as Medical director at Ideal Image Central Florida (Laser Hair Removal Company) and Hair Loss Control Clinic (HLCC). In addition, Dr. Ayyaz serves as Assistant Professor of Dermatology at University of Central Florida College of Medicine.
