Abstract :

The uncatalysed reaction of potassium permanganate with D (+) mannose in acidic medium was investigated kinetically. The progress of the reaction was followed by examining the concentration of potassium permanganate in the reaction mixture at different time intervals spectrophotometrically. The reaction rates were enhanced by 3 x 10-4M of KMnO4 concentration and the oxidation with KMnO4 was found to be faster using 2 x 10-2M of Mannose and 5 x 10-1M of Sulphuric acid.
