Angiology is a specialization in medicine that deals with the diseases of the circulatory system including the arteries and veins and the lymphatic systems comprising of lymph vessels. Angiology covers all diseases and disorders associated with blood vessels, including coronary artery disease, atherosclerosis, hypertension, peripheral vascular disease, and stroke. Angiology includes vascular biology, vascular medicine, vascular surgery, endovascular interventions, and phlebology. The journal provides a platform for the communication of scientific endeavors across the complete spectrum of arterial, venous, and lymphatic disorders. In both developing and the developed countries, cardiovascular disease forms the major risk factor for mortality. With the advent of new diagnostic and analytical technologies and methodologies, the present understanding of underlying causes of cardiovascular ailments has now become much more clearer. We are now in a position to not only prevent but also treat different forms of cardiovascular diseases. Nevertheless, the prevalence of cardiovascular diseases continues to expand in proportion worldwide and is now considered as the major cause of mortality. The research and developmental activities at the laboratory and advanced clinical level are taking place and there is growing evidence revealing further finer details. Concerted efforts are in progress to address various issues and enhance our knowledge for accurate diagnosis, comprehensive prevention, effective treatment and efficient management of cardiovascular diseases. Both the medical and surgical solutions are being worked upon.

Angiology is an open-access journal that publishes peer-reviewed articles on the preventive measures, current interpretations, and understanding of etiology, pathophysiology, diagnostic modalities, as well as treatment of vascular diseases. The journal provides a unique opportunity to the contributing authors to present their diverse views and opinions on all the relevant aspects of vascular diseases and disorders. The journal reports cutting across the disciplinary boundaries of medical science to present the most comprehensive and up-to-date information on vascular diseases. Vascular diseases include several pathophysiologies with disorders in both the physiology and biochemical constitution of the organs and organ systems. Therefore, interdisciplinary exchange of information and expert opinion is very important. In this context, the Journal consolidates information from all the related disciplines while presenting most comprehensive understanding of the biochemical and pathopohysiuological mechanisms and disturbances underlying vascular disease and thus promotes accurate diagnosis and treatment. The journal covers all the relevant aspects of angiology including the etiology, disease prognosis, treatment, management and rehabilitation and further includes finer aspects such as free radicals, stress physiology, atherosclerosis, thrombotic and embolic arterial occlusive diseases, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, arterial-venous malformations, aneurismal diseases of the aorta and anesthesia for cardiovascular procedures. Specific diseases that are included within the coverage of the journal are valvular heart disease, coronary artery disease Lyme disease, bypass surgery, coarctation of the aorta, thromboangiitis obliterans, the subclavian steal syndrome, dissecting aortic aneurysms, thoracic outlet syndrome, vasculitis, diabetic vascular disease, popliteal artery entrapment syndrome, endoluminal grafting, renovascular disease, vascular trauma, Marfan's syndrome, Behcet's disease, Budd-Chiari's syndrome, venous diseases of the upper extremity, lymphadenopathy, and phlebology.

Keeping in tune with the current and emerging technologies, the journal focuses on disease mechanisms, modern invasive and non-invasive diagnostics, techniques, and indications of vascular and cardiovascular surgery. The journal aims to furnish latest developments in the pathophysiology of vascular diseases for the continuing education of the practicing physicians, surgeons, clinical scientists, medical residents, interns, and related health care professionals. The journal disseminates scientific knowledge and stimulates the field of angiology at an International level. The journal adapts to the evolving and expanding research on angiology and hence publishes special and supplementary issues to cover the new and emerging fields. The journal started its publication activities in the year 2013 and is now into the 9th year of its publication services. The journal has played a pivotal role in promoting scientific information exchange, education, coordinated research, and evidence-based clinical practice in the field of vascular medicine. In this issue, the journal has published a case study on direct diagnosis of pulmonary embolism on echocardiography. The authors have reported a clinical case of pulmonary embolism in a patient referred for the management of heart failure. Ultrasound based diagnosis of pulmonary embolism by direct visualization of a thrombus in the pulmonary artery is rare while there is no therapeutic strategy among thrombolysis, anticoagulation and surgery.

I congratulate the Journal editors for upholding the publishing standards and I also thank the reviewers for their constructive criticism and suggestions during the review of the manuscripts. I look forward to the compilation of the issue and timely release.
