E thics is about judgment, which is rarely black and white. This highlights some of the ethical dilemmas that face practicing clinicians in their everyday life and restates how useful the General Medical Council guidance is to make appropriate decisions. The authors have faced all eight of the clinical scenarios in this
paper in their routine clinical practice.
