Biography

Dr. Altmann received her PhD in microbiology from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 2009. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, where, in addition to her research responsibilities, she assisted in providing oversight of the laboratory’s BSL3 facilities. Dr. Altmann is currently working as a staff scientist at MRIGlobal as part of a Defense Threat Reduction Agency-funded initiative in Kazakhstan. Dr. Altmann’s research interests include the pathogenesis of and the development of therapeutic interventions for emerging viral pathogens, particularly orthopoxviruses. She is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of the Sciences, the American Society for Microbiology, the American Society for Virology,Sigma Delta Epsilon-Graduate Women in Science, and Sigma Xi.

Research Interest

Dr. Altmann’s research interests include the pathogenesis of and the development of therapeutic interventions for emerging viral pathogens, particularly orthopoxviruses.
