Dr. Richard M Niles is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology and also Senior Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Education at Joan C Edwards School of Medicine Marshall University in Huntington WV. He was Professor of Biochemistry at Boston University School of Medicine. He received his PhD in Pathology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst 1972 and his MS in Botany from the University of New Hampshire in 1970. His BA in Biology and Chemistry was received in 1998 from Rhode Island College. His awards include the Rhode Island College Alumni Achievement Award in 2001 The Marshall University Distinguished Artists and Scholars Award in 2003 and the SebetiaTer Award in Biomedical Sciences received in Naples Italy in 2008. He has served on numerous NIH study sections as well as Chair of several DOD review panels Presently he Chair of review panel II for the American Institute for Cancer Research. He serves as reviewer for numerous journals and has over 80 peer-reviewed publications and review articles.
His research interest on The effect of and resistance to retinoids in human melanoma, The role of non-hypoxic expression of hypoxia-inducible factor-1-alpha in human melanoma progression, Nutrition and human melanoma, Genomics and epigenetics in human melanoma.
