1. Molecular design of enzymes Enzymes can catalyze a wide diversity of chemical reactions with great efficiency. By computational biological techniques, combined with rational and semi-rational design, the evolutionary mechanism of activity, stability and substrate specificity has been studied extensively. In this way, we can promote the development of enzymesâ€™ divergent evolution, which may have led to the highly proficient enzymes for industrial biocatalysis. 2. Enzymatic polymerization Using enzymes as catalysts, particularly combination with chemical catalysis, tailor-made functional polyesters were designed, constructed and evaluated as drug/gene delivery systems. The work will facilitate the applications of enzymes in the synthesis of biomedical polymers, and thus provide a green and eco-friendly route for the chemical industry.
