Dr. Melissa A. Birkett completed her MA -Ph.D.in Neuroscience and Behavior in 2007 from University of Massachusetts Amherst and MA-M.Ed. in Secondary Science Education in 2005 from University of Massachusetts Amherst. She has done NY - B.A. Psychology Biopsychology Emphasis in 2001 from Cornell University, Ithaca.
Recent research interests include various aspects of stress and anxiety. He is currently working on projects investigating the anxiolytic effects of several natural products that may have mechanisms of action similar to prescribed anxiolytics and are commonly used in college populations. One goal of my future research is to better understand how individuals respond to stressful situations (through measures such as heart rate, blood pressure and stress hormone release and behavior) and which factors, present in natural products, may be involved in regulating these responses.
