Jurgen Schiller, PhD
Medical Faculty, Institute of Medical Physics and Biophysics
University of Leipzig, Germany
Dr. Schiller was born in 1965 in Bavaria, Germany. After studies of Chemistry with the focus on spectroscopic methods he did his PhD in Biophysics investigating the degradation of polysaccharides by reactive oxygen species (ROS). Currently, he is the leader of a working group at the Medical Faculty of the Leipzig University. His research focus is on (phospho)lipids, their role in different pathologies and the investigation of lipid oxidation products generated under inflammatory conditions by using NMR, mass spectrometry and chromatographic techniques. Another focus of his research is the characterization of the glycosaminoglycans of the extracellular matrix. He is particularly interested in combining the resolving power of thin-layer chromatography with the sensitivity of MS detection. Dr. Schiller is the author of about 180 journal papers, reviews and contributions to books. He is member of two special research units funded by the German Research Council.
