Biography

Dr. Gennaro Pagano was born in Naples (Italy) on 02/04/1985. In 2009, he took his degree in Medicine (110/110 First with Honors) at the University of Naples Federico II”. Starting May 2010 Dr. Pagano is resident doctor of Geriatrics in the Department of Translational Medical Sciences at the Federico II University of Naples (Italy). His interests focused on mechanisms underlying Sympathetic Impairment in Aging and other conditions (such as Heart Failure, Diabetes, Parkinsons and Alzheimers disease) and on the effects of exercise training and pharmacological treatment to improve symptoms and progression of these diseases. Dr. Pagano is member of Italian Society of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology, member of Cochrane Heart Group and member of MORE – McMaster Online Rating of Evidence. He is reviewer of the Journal of Gerontology: Medical Sciences (JGMS) and of the BioMedCentral Research Notes (BMC Research notes).

Research Interest

His Epidemiology Research experience focused on the methodology of clinical research and epidemiology, the methodology of systematic reviews and meta-analysis of efficacy and diagnostic accuracy studies and analysis of the quality and reliability of medical literature. His Clinical Research experience focused on the role of oral anticoagulation therapies in the elderly with or without atrial fibrillation and with severe heart failure, the impact of implantable cardiac device in the elderly, the role of comprehensive geriatric assessment in prediction of short and long term mortality in elderly patients with heart failure and the role of sympathetic nervous system hyperactivity in the aging and heart failure. His Experimental Research experience focused on the gene therapy-mediated restoration of G-protein coupled receptor signaling deregulation occurring during Sympathetic Nervous System Hyperactivity in heart failure (in particular on cardiovascular and adrenal beta-adrenergic receptor and angiotensin-1 receptor signaling).
