Graduate as Physician from the University of Salamanca and in Psichology from the Pontificia University, he went to Fundación Jimenez Diaz, were he made the Residence in Internal Medicine and in Endocrinology. He worked as Fellow Research in the Laboratory of Diabetes, of Profesor Manuel Serrano Rios, in the field of Gastrointestinal Hormones and Insulin secretion, were he acquired his PhD. Then he went for a year to the Endocrine Unit of the Hammersmith Hospital to work with Professor Ian MacIntyre in the field of calciotrophic hormones, specially in radioinmunoassys. Since 1991 he is Chief of the Service of Endocrinolgoy and of the Unit of Metabolic Bone Diseaes of the University Hospital 12 of October in Madrid. In 2000 he was promoted to Chairman of Medicine of the Complutense University of Madrid. He is actually President of the Foundation for the Study of Osteoporosis and Endocrine Diseases. Also is correspondent member of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Granada and Baleares Islands. He has publish more than 200 papers in journal of medicine, with specially relevance in the field of diabetes, osteoporosis and transplantion complications. He is member of several scientific societies, and has participate as coauthors of a chapter in bone diseases in Farreras-Rozman Internal Medicine textbook most used in Spain.
