Thomas J. Manning is a Professor of Chemistry at Valdosta State University. He received his PhD from Jim Winefordner the University of Florida and did a post doctoral fellowship at Florida State University with nuclear chemist Greg Choppin. His publication list includes a number of papers in marine natural products as well as high temperature plasmachemistry, environmental chemistry, optical spectroscopy and chemical education. His work in the marine environment has focused on developing a technique called pharmaceutical aquaculture or farming the ocean. It utilizes a designed chemical matrix to to colonize and grow marine bacteria that produce marine natural products such as bryostatin and ET743.
