Dr. Birendra Nath Mallick completed M.Sc. with University Gold Medal in Physiology from Calcutta University and Ph.D. from the AIIMS. Immediately he joined (1986) the School of Life Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and since 2001 he is a full Professor of Neurobiology. Biren Mallick teaches several courses to the M.Sc./M.Phil. students; he initiated basic sleep research at JNU. So far 15 candidates have completed Ph.D. under him who are well settled within India and abroad. He has published 94 papers and book chapters, has written/edited 4 books and has an international patent to his credit. He has deliverd ~250 invited lectures within the country and abroad and he has peer reviewed research papers for ~30 International journals. In recognition he has been elected fellow of all nationally recognized science academies and he is a member of several scientific bodies in India; he has been honoured with several coveted awards.
Dr. Birendra Nath Mallick research intrests are centered in neuro-anatomical and neurochemical mechanism of regulation of REM sleep, functions of REM sleep.
