Dr. Sohel Anwar, P.E. is currently an associate professor and graduate committee chair in the department of Mechanical Engineering at IUPUI. He received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ in 1995. He worked as a senior research engineer at Caterpillar, Inc. between 1995 and 1999 and at Ford Motor Company, Visteon Corporation between 1999 and 2004 before joining the department of Mechanical Engineering at IUPUI the same year.  He has performed extensive research in the optimal design and optimal energy management of plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) power train. He is also involved in researching fuel efficiency improvement for diesel engines via optimal design and control of after-treatment systems such as Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF), Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR), Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR). He is the recipient of a number for research grant in energy related research projects. He performed extensive research in fault tolerant control of drive by wire systems both in the industry and academia which resulted in a number of publications and patents. His other research interests include MEMS based Mechatronic system design and control. He published over sixty five technical articles in peer reviewed journals and conference proceedings including one e-book and two book chapters. He holds 12 US patents. He is an associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology.
