    Alopecia Areata (AA) is an autoimmune disease characterized by hair loss. The degrees of hair loss include patches of hair loss on the scalp or complete scalp hair loss (alopecia totalis), complete scalp hair loss and hair loss on other body parts (alopecia universalis), and hair loss along the hairline (ophiasis).
