Robert J. Talmadge is currently Associate Professor at California State Polytechnic University, USA.My primary research interests include identification of cellular mechanisms involved in skeletal muscle adaptation following chronic alterations in muscle activity, such as spinal cord injury, space flight, exercise and disease states such as muscular dystrophy and congestive heart failure. Our research is focused on how the various fiber type specific isoforms of myosin heavy chain (MyHC) and the sarcoplasmic reticulum calcium pump (SERCA) are altered with muscle adaptation. Specifically, we are investigating the role of several transcription factors and signaling pathways, including: Calcineurin, NFAT, MEF2, MyoD, myogenin, and PGC-1. Additional research interests include age-associated sarcopenia, factors that influence muscle growth (ractopamine, clenbuterol), analysis of the mini-muscle phenotype in mice selected for running distance, general muscle physiology and neural adaptation of the spinal cord locomotor networks following spinal cord injury.His international experience includes various programs, contributions and participation in different countries for diverse fields of study. His research interests reflect in his publications in various national and international journals.
