Biography
Prof Okechukwu Jonathan Okonkwo obtained his BSc, MSc and PhD in Chemistry from Brunel University, UK, in 1982, 1989 and 1992 respectively. After a one year postdoctoral studies at Brunel, Prof Okonkwo was appointed as a lecturer in Analytical/Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Swaziland in 1993. After 3 years in Swaziland, Prof Okonkwo went to the University of Venda, South Africa in 1998, as a Senior Lecturer in Environmental Chemistry. At the University of Venda, Prof Okonkwo developed the
Pollution laboratory, a laboratory designed for the analyses of
environmental contaminants in various environmental matrices. In 2002, Prof OJ Okonkwo was appointed as a full Professor, Research & Innovation in Environmental Chemistry at Tshwane University of Technology (TUT). Prof Okonkwo currently teaches green chemistry, waste
management and research methodology to final year Bachelor of Technology students.
Research Interest
Environmental, Water & Earth Sciences, adsorption technology, speciation of toxic metals in aquatic
environment, soil remediation, green chemistry and persistent organic pollutants.
