Prof Okechukwu Jonathan Okonkwo obtained his BSc, MSc and PhD in Chemistry from Brunel University, UK, in 1982, 1989 and 1992 respectively. After a one year postdoctoral studies at Brunel, Prof Okonkwo was appointed as a lecturer in Analytical/Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Swaziland in 1993. After 3 years in Swaziland, Prof Okonkwo went to the University of Venda, South Africa in 1998, as a Senior Lecturer in Environmental Chemistry. At the University of Venda, Prof Okonkwo developed the Pollution laboratory, a laboratory designed for the analyses of environmental contaminants in various environmental matrices. In 2002, Prof OJ Okonkwo was appointed as a full Professor, Research & Innovation in Environmental Chemistry at Tshwane University of Technology (TUT). Prof Okonkwo currently teaches green chemistry, waste management and research methodology to final year Bachelor of Technology students.
Environmental, Water & Earth Sciences, adsorption technology, speciation of toxic metals in aquatic
environment, soil remediation, green chemistry and persistent organic pollutants.
