Biography

Emily C. Dossett, MD, MTS, is an assistant clinical professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Los Angeles County + University of Southern California Medical Center. She is founder and director of the Maternal Wellness Clinic, an outpatient clinic dedicated to perinatal mood disorders, as well as the Women’s Mental Health program in the department of OBGYN. Both clinical programs focus on working with historically underserved pregnant and postpartum women with mood, anxiety, and other psychiatric disorders. Dr. Dossett teaches medical students, residents, and fellows in both psychiatry and OBGYN about clinical care for perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. In addition, Dr. Dossett conducts perinatal mood and anxiety disorders screening and treatment seminars for hospitals, clinical programs, and non-profits throughout Los Angeles County and California. Dr. Dossett serves as Medical Director of the Los Angeles County Perinatal Mental Health Task Force, a consortium of over thirty individuals and agencies dedicated to policy change and service improvement for perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. She is also a consultant to Strong Start, a Department of Health Services program seeking to decrease preterm birth rates in Los Angeles County to addressing known risk factors, including perinatal depression.

Research Interest

Dr. Dossett's research interests include the delivery of psychiatric and behavioral health services to pregnant and postpartum women, particularly women who historically have been underserved. Her research focuses primarily on public policy and health services, in particular regarding disparities in access to health care and the long-term effects of maternal mental illness on the life of the mother, child, and family.
