Alexis Ortiz
Adjunct Associate Professor at Rice University
Dr. Ortiz is a faculty member at the School of Physical Therapy in Texas Woman’s University (TWU). His responsibilities in the entry-level physical therapy curriculum are: exercise testing and prescription and therapeutic exercise. In addition, he is the coordinator for the biomechanics laboratory at TWU. He has been a licensed physical therapist in Texas since 2000. Previous to his appointment at TWU, he was a professor at the University of Puerto Rico-Medical Sciences Campus and served for a year as the chair of the Physical Therapy Program in Puerto Rico. He specializes in sports medicine and has worked as a physical therapist in national, regional, and international sports events.
His research interests focus on the whole spectrum of sports medicine; from sports enhancement and injury prevention to physical activity as medicine to prevent chronic diseases. Some of his latest projects have been in the area of ACL rehab, physical activity in breast cancer survivors, and exercise in adults living with HIV.
