Abstract

The Resignification: A Multidisciplinary and Therapeutic Analysis Melina

Melina C*

The concept of resignification, derived from the Latin roots re-(again) and significare (to give meaning), encompasses the process of reinterpreting or giving new significance to existing meanings. While traditionally rooted in semantics and linguistic theory, its application spans a range of disciplines, including the humanities, arts, social sciences and natural sciences. This essay explores the historical evolution of resignification, its role in the reinterpretation of cultural texts and artifacts, its transformative potential in social contexts and its therapeutic implications for human development. Resignification is presented not only as a cognitive and emotional process of reconstructing personal narratives but also as a tool for social change and scientific progress. Through therapeutic practices such as narrative therapy, individuals can reshape their identities, overcome trauma and foster resilience. The essay concludes by emphasizing the importance of resignification in both individual growth and collective societal transformation.
