Uthra Rajamani

Biography

Uthra Rajamani has received her PhD in Stellenbosch University during the period of December 2009. Currently, she is working as Research Scientist at the University of California - Davis. Her past and present research includes neurodegeneration, Diabetes, Cardiovascular diseases, Metabolic Syndrome, Inflammation and the link between these aspects in the onset of diabetes mediated neurodegeneration, diabetic cardiomyopathy, diabetic retinopathy and the role of inflammation in these processes. Based on this research and fellowship training she has received several awards and honors, such as: The prestigious Wyndham Award for research awarded by the Physiological Society of southern Africa in 2009, Best award for research as a post-doctoral fellow at the Postdoc research Day by Stellenbosch University in 2010, 2nd prize for her oral presentation by Astra Zeneca in 2010. She was also selected as one of the 200 Young South African achievers by “Mail&Guardian” in 2010. In May 2012, she received a Special recognitions award for her contribution in science as a non-citizen awarded by IKUSASA in Johannesburg, South Africa. She has authored around a dozen research articles/reviews.
