Majid Mirab-balou have a special interest in thrips systematics. He did his doctoral thesis on a taxonomic study of Thysanoptera from Iran. His research has been based on the morphology of the adults (both sexes) and second instar larva. Recently, he is working together with Professor TONG Xiao-li on the systematics of Thysanoptera from China, especially those species associated with leaf-litter and dead wood in south of China.
