Biography

Dr Madhumita Manna has received her PhD degree from Indian Institute of Chemical Biology, Kolkata, India during the period of 1993-1998. Currently, she is working as Associate Professor in Department of Zoology, Barasat Govt. College under Govt. of West Bengal and West Bengal State University. She has successfully completed her responsibilities as Head of the Dept, Dept. Of Zoology, Bethune College, Kolkata. Her research areas include molecular typing of clinical isolates of Indian Kala-azar patients and development of attenuated live vaccine against the disease, Leishmaniasis. She is also interested in finding out anti leishmanial agents from plants and other chemicals. Dr. Manna is Principal investigator of many research programmes funded by University Grant Commission (UGC), UGC DAE, Dept. of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt. of India etc. She has received several awards and honors, such as Post Graduate Jubilee Merit prize from University of Calcutta, National Scholarship from Govt. of India for her academic excellence. She is serving as expert Reviewer of journals like Parasites and Vectors, Journal of Proteomics and Bioinformatics, International Journal Biological Macromolecules, Immunologic Research, Journal of Parasitic Diseases etc. She has authored more than 25 research articles. She is a member of Leishmania Research Society, India, and Life member of Zoological Society of India, Indian Science News Association and All India Congress of Cytology & Genetics respectively.
