Background: Supervision capacity is essential for effective supervision practices and timely completion of postgraduate studies. However, the existing capacity programs are skewed to limited issues of selection of postgraduate students, supervision models, literature search, and research methodology which has less behavioural and attitude impacts. The current paper aims to package a training program tailored to impact positively on behaviours of new and co-research supervisors who desire timely completion of postgraduate studies. Method: Three main elements of the Theory of Reasoned behavior; behavior intention, attitude, and subjective norms and Dickoff survey lists guided the development of a training package for new research supervisors and co-supervisors to ensure effective supervision practices. These three elements are complemented by the empirical findings of a study conducted with 12 research supervisors from selected nursing education institutions in Gauteng. Thematic content analysis of the qualitative research approach is applied to make sense of the interviews conducted with supervisors. Results: The training package should complement the existing research capacity programs with the following additional items; supervision philosophy, supervisor attitude, and the role of research structures. Conclusion: Higher education establishments that seek efficient supervision techniques to ensure the t imely completion of postgraduate studies can refer to the training package as a reference. The package could be used as a tool to enhance the preparedness of new research supervisors, especially guiding them about the supervisorsâ?? behavior in postgraduate studies
