Successful pregnancy outcome after hemi-hysterectomy in a patient with mullerian anomaly (unicornuate uterus)

Abstract :

Müllerian agenesis occurs in 1 out of every 4,000�??10,000 females worldwide. Among the different mullerian anomalies, unicornuate uterus is rarest form. Abnormalities of the reproductive tract such as congenital anomalies of the Mullerian duct often result to dysmenorrhea, pelvic pain and worst to infertility. During pregnancy, it has been associated with higher likelihood of miscarriage, preterm birth, malpresentation and growth restriction. Evaluation for associated congenital renal anomalies or other anomalies is also important for correct management. Hemi-hysterectomy has been one of the commonly used surgery for the alleviation of symptoms of such anomaly. However there has been no reported case on the reproductive outcome after surgery. We present a case of a 30 year old Gravida 1 Para 0 on her 37 6/7 weeks of gestation diagnosed with unicornuate uterus and non-communicating rudimentary horn associate with absent right kidney, rectovestibular fistula, and imperforate anus who had a successful pregnancy outcome.
