Abstract :

Objective: Role of RMI (RISK OF MALIGNANCY INDEX) in the prediction of ovarian malignancy and its correlation with histopathological examination report. Material and methods: Total of 30 cases are studied prospectively during 1year period in Mamata General Hospital, Khammam from may 2011-april 2012. Results: All 30 cases underwent Laparotomy & 2 cases with RMI-1880 & 1998 underwent staging laparotomy and diagnosed with ADENOCARCINOMA of ovary. One case though RMI was 30, clinical features are highly suggestive of malignancy & staging Laparotomy was done & HPE report showed DYSGERMINOMA of ovary. Rest 27cases with RMI <250 are benign in origin and confirmed with Histopathological examination report. Conclusion: RMI score using the age, ultrasound score and ca-125 levels is a useful predictor for assessment of risk of malignancy in ovarian tumors of epithelial origin.
