Emotional intelligence represents the human capacity to understand our own emotional states, as well as our psycho-affective needs, and shows us a range of possibilities for opening up to well-being. In the same way, emotional intelligence implies being able to understand the emotional states and needs of others. Based on this, the Peruvian Association of Nursing Schools and Faculties, (ASPEFEEN), carried out a study in August of this year in order to identify the state of Emotional Intelligence in nurses participating in the National Nursing Exam. The purpose of this examination is to provide a job position in a rural-community health center in our country over 12 months, which represents a significant opportunity to improve the health of our compatriots in the different departments and regions of our territory. To this extent, the objective of our study was based on knowing the state of the variable in order to guarantee optimal performance in relation to the quality of care, the nurse-patient relationship, as well as providing care for the psychological well-being of professionals. This study included the voluntary participation of 1700 professional nurses; the instrument applied was the Daniel Goleman Emotional Intelligence Test and among the results of the construct dimensions we highlight that 72.7% of the sample presented low emotional attention, 63.15% presented low emotional clarity and 79.36% presented low emotional repair. From the data collected, we conclude as an Institution on the importance of implementing a Program focused on the development and optimization of Emotional Intelligence in professional nurses and predicting the function of the variable in students of the career during their training years. Currently, the Program has already been designed and will have sessions for the acquisition of tools towards the improvement of Emotional Intelligence, the development of resources associated with socio-emotional skills, mindfulness practices and individual psychological sessions.
