The rising incidence of thyroid cancer in pediatric patients is a significant concern globally and in Saudi Arabia. The study aims to thoroughly evaluate the clinical presentations, prognoses, and outcomes of differentiated thyroid cancer in pediatric patients at a tertiary care center in Saudi Arabia. The objective of the study is to comprehensively describe the clinical presentation, treatment interventions, histopathological characteristics, complications, follow-up, and response to treatment in 17 patients aged 20 years or younger with differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) at King Abdulaziz Medical City, Jeddah. The methods section outlines a rigorous retrospective cohort study, including well-established treatment interventions such as total or near-total thyroidectomy, central and/or lateral neck dissection, and radioactive iodine ablation. The study results reveal that the majority of patients had thyroid nodules as their primary complaint, with papillary cancer being the most common tumor type. Post-treatment, the majority of patients showed either excellent or indeterminate responses to therapy, with some experiencing hypocalcemia postoperatively. In conclusion, the study underscores the importance of thorough neck examinations and highlights the overall positive responses to therapy, with rare occurrences of recurrence and no patient deaths recorded, instilling confidence in the effectiveness of the treatment protocols.
