Abstract :

Understanding of endometrial cancer development has been changed significantly. Fifty years ago, estrogen was considered as the main cause for the cancer development and no histologic type of the endometrial cancers was emphasized. After endometrial serous carcinoma was first described by Dr. Lauchlan in 1981, the Dualistic model (Type I and II) of endometrial cancer has dominated in the last 20 years. However, with the development of molecular classification of endometrial cancer from The Cancer Genome Atlas studies, molecular applications in diagnostic pathology and clinical management become inevitable. In this talk, I am going to cover the evolution of understanding endometrial cancer and introduction of TCGA ? endometrial cancer findings and the implications of such molecular findings in pathologic diagnosis and clinical management. At the end of the talk, I am going to point out the potential future directions for research in this area. wenxin.zheng@utsouthwestern.edu
