Abstract :

In this work a mathematical model of particle size distribution (PSD) in a styrene emulsion polymerization system is developed, employing homopolymerization. Changes have been made in modeling the number of radicals per particle. The partial differential equation describing the particle population is discretized using orthogonal collocation on the finite element and the complete system of differential algebraic equation is solved using DDASSL. Simulation in Polyred considering the average number of radicals per polymer particle ñ and programming in Fortran 90 with a variation of the number of radicals per particle and model prediction are compared with experimental results generated from an experimental reactor.
