Abstract :

Egypt has no national screening program for cervical carcinoma, and the actual incidence of cervical carcinoma is not known in Egypt. HPV infections have become the most prevalent sexually transmitted disease worldwide and Egypt is no exception, so we are seeing more and more cases of cervical cancer. The classical management of early stage cervical cancer is radical hysterectomy followed by radiotherapy. The role of laparoscopy in radical hysterectomy is gaining popularity worldwide but still far from being the standard surgical intervention due to the need of expertise in the advanced laparoscopic intervention and the marked increase in the cost of the procedure but the advantages of laparoscopic radical hysterectomy over open surgery are outstanding and include the following: ? Proper working space ? Magnification ? More complete dissection ? Less blood loss ? Proper lymphadenectomy ? Proper ureteric tunnel dissection ? Less adhesion ? Less pain ? Fewer Hospital stays In this presentation, we will high light all related aspects of the procedure and its future in developing countries and worldwide.
